Hey, ye ole, Giant faithful, it’s finally time to celebrate in the world of Orange and Black Land because mark it down, today, on this day July 25, 2017, we did something of significance. Finally we did something greater than mediocrity, something that gives us hope.
In a washed out and pathetic attempt to call a season, on Tuesday the Giants not only beat the visiting Pirates by 8 runs (11-3), they also gave ace, Madison Bumgarner, his first win of the year (1-4), debuted Pablo Sandoval in AAA Sacramento (1-4, Double) and sent 3rd baseman-utility player Eduardo Nunez ironically to the Boston Red Sox for a pair of pitching prospects to be named.
A wild night in Giants land to say the least as the Giants ship its starting 3rd baseman out of town, in no coincidence at all (sarcasm), to pave the way for the return of the Panda to his natural habitat in the city by the bay.
Obviously I’m excited to see the prospect of Sandoval starting at third for the G-men but I’m more excited about the prospects we’re getting, regardless of their current rank in the Sox Farm system. Lets face it, the Giants are 20 plus games under .500 and their leading farm system, AAA- Sacramento is 41-61 at the moment… which suggests there’s not much if anything left in the cupboards to rest our hopes upon.
Today was a good day and a good sign from Giants management that they are actively in the business of prepping and retooling for next year. I expect more trades to come and if we can get SP Cueto and SP Samardzija and possibly a combination of OF Span and RP Melancon (doubtful) off the books for some prospects as well then were heading in the right direction. Only 5 days left until the MLB trade deadline (July 31st).
